Camera shots It is important to know the camera shots and why they are used. For each shot you are to draw a box and a picture that show this shot type. Underneath you are to write what you think the importance of that shot is. eg. why directors use it, what is the effect… You have 3 minutes to complete each image and write.
ELS: EXTRA LONG SHOT
LS: LONG SHOT
MLS: MEDIUM LONG SHOT
MS: MID SHOT
MCU: MEDIUM CLOSE UP
CU: CLOSE UP
BCU: BIG CLOSE UP
Note: With the exception of Close up, all other terms apply only to the shot size of a human figure. You cannot have a MID SHOT of a car, for example. There is no suggestion that these are necessarily the desired framing for shots; they are just standard points of reference. Often shots will fall between shots sizes and could equally be described as say MS or MCU. The ELS is a vague term referring to any shot wider than an LS.
