PSAT’s Scores are available in your College Board accounts Individual score report will be handed to you during your scheduling meeting. Utilize Khan Academy for free test prep 20 hours of KA prep has an average increase of 115 pts. Your results are interactive You can click on a question to get a detailed explanation You can review all test questions by subject and topic (Algebra…)

What Should I Be Doing Now? Meet with your counselor! Review your transcript with your counselor Familiarize yourself with NAVIANCE, collegeboard.org and actstudent.org Look into career interests. Make a list of schools that interest you Schedule college visits Register for SAT’s and/or ACT’s Teacher recommendations? Update your resume – live document GET ORGANIZED!

Transcript Release Form Take home copy of the Transcript Release Form Your parent or guardian must sign the form for us to release your transcripts. This form must be turned in to one of the counseling secretaries If we do not have a form on file, we cannot send your transcript out to your colleges/scholarships/coaches, etc…

SAT Testing Tests in the areas of evidenced based reading, writing, and mathematical reasoning skills Ranges 200 - 800 Average is about 1100 for combined scores Register on line at Collegeboard.org Official Score requests – Score choice Review your PSAT within your CB Account

Visit when school is in session Visit, Visit, Visit… Visiting a school is the best way to know if that school is a good fit for you Some schools track visits Sit in on classes Consider staying for an overnight Make appointments to speak with faculty Visit when school is in session

The Common Application www.commmonapp.org Over 700 colleges accept this form. Easy to match with Naviance. Saves time. Essay prompts are already out for next year’s application.

Student Resume You should already have a resume on Naviance Make sure you keep this updated, it is a live document! You can share with colleges. Should include: Part-time jobs Activities and sports in and out of school Academic Honors and Awards Community Service www.educationplanner.com - has a page on building resumes. Counselors can help you write one.

Your School Counselor We have many answers to your questions Letters of recommendations – we need to know you! Review your transcript with you Make an appointment to see your counselor soon!

Letters of Recommendation Start thinking about a few teachers now. Does not have to be from your top grade classes. Be aware that some colleges want a specific number. Example: if they require one and you ask two teachers, the first to submit will count.

Get Organized The more organized you are, the less overwhelmed you’ll feel Create a spreadsheet Use file folders Other tips??

Start thinking about teachers for letters of recommendation. Facebook/social media clean up! New Email account.

Financial Aid/Scholarships $$ Numerous opportunities out there Counseling Website was recently updated with a number of resources. Some examples are listed here… Fastweb.com Schollyapp National Scholarship Search in Naviance Local service organizations Parent or Student Employer Although not a scholarship you can use the FAFSA forecaster in Naviance or the financial aid calculator on each college’s website. It is never too early to start looking for opportunities.
