Presentation transcript:

Warm Up Thursday, February 16th Copy the three model thesis statements and indicate which is analytical, argumentative (persuasive), and expository. The way to end mass shootings is to ban guns entirely, as a mass shooting is impossible to enact without a gun. While American citizens acknowledge that mass shootings are a serious problem in our country, passionately held perspectives offer conflicting solutions that illustrate a challenging problem. Mass shootings have been increasing in our country since the late 90s. After copying and identifying the statements above, briefly explain WHY you’ve identified them as you have.

Learning Targets: To distinguish between different types of research essays. To work with a group in order to rank model student essays.

Agenda Warm up Example Paper Evaluation activity Leftover time? Brainstorm for your homework assignment (due Wednesday!).

Groups Open up the sample student essays in Google Classroom. Groups of four will read each essay, indicate strengths and weaknesses in each (using the rubric), and will rank them according to their grades.
