BELL WORK Did you know that John is one of the most common names in America? In the Middle East, Muhammad is one of the most common names. Why do you think that is so?

I can examine and explain the elements of Islam using my own words. OBJECTIVE & STANDARD ISLAM I can examine and explain the elements of Islam using my own words. 7.5 Trace the origins of Islam and the life and teachings of Muhammad, including historical connection to Judaism and Christianity.

Sunnis believe the true Caliph/leader should be chosen by those close to Muhammad and that the leader did not have to be a relative of Muhammad. Most Muslims (85%) are Sunni.

Qur’an Islam’s holy book Also spelled Koran Divided into 114 chapters called suras Arranged from longest to shortest; It is a little shorter than the NT in the Bible.

What are the main practices? ISLAM
