CAML / SCAR-MarBIN Biogeographic Synthesis Workshop Villefranche-sur-Mer 18-21 May 2010 Synthesize the new Southern Ocean biogeography

Synthesize the new Southern Ocean biogeography Objectives -To establish a new biogeographic synthesis for the Southern Ocean, in particular through a GIS approach On the basis of new CAML data and SCAR-MarBIN compilation of recent data, to develop more complete and accurate biogeographic schemes for the Southern Ocean, useful for scientific, conservation, monitoring and management purposes. CAML / SCAR-MarBIN Biogeographic Synthesis Workshop Villefranche-sur-Mer 18-21 May 2010

Synthesize the new Southern Ocean biogeography Objectives To analyze and synthesize biogeographic patterns To analyze and synthesize biogeographic processes To attempt analyzing and synthesizing the driving factors of spatial distribution by linking data on species occurrence and richness (hotspots, etc) to relevant macroecological, environmental and evolutionary context. CAML / SCAR-MarBIN Biogeographic Synthesis Workshop Villefranche-sur-Mer 18-21 May 2010

Synthesize the new Southern Ocean biogeography Objectives To elaborate a strategy for the selection of the “CAML Legacy Sites” To prepare the CAML Biogeographic Atlas of the Southern Ocean CAML / SCAR-MarBIN Biogeographic Synthesis Workshop Villefranche-sur-Mer 18-21 May 2010

The CAML Biogeographic Atlas of the Southern Ocean Synthetic document (paper + digital versions) compiling synthetic maps and (short) texts on: SO environmental setting: hydrography: water masses, currents, surface and bottom temperatures, etc sediments geomorphology etc CAML / SCAR-MarBIN Biogeographic Synthesis Workshop Villefranche-sur-Mer 18-21 May 2010

The CAML Biogeographic Atlas of the Southern Ocean Synthetic document (paper + digital versions) compiling synthetic maps and (short) texts on: Biogeographic patterns : distribution patterns at taxon level (benthos, plankton, nekton, top predators?) all taxa comparison / integration / synthesis (incl. gap analysis) Biogeographic processes distribution processes at taxon level all taxa comparison / integration / synthesis Phylogeographic aspects at taxon level integration / synthesis CAML / SCAR-MarBIN Biogeographic Synthesis Workshop Villefranche-sur-Mer 18-21 May 2010
