SB 490 Counselors- Background SB 490, which was passed during the 85th Legislative session (2017), amends TEC 42.006 (a-2) to require the reporting of information regarding the availability of school counselors (ROLE-ID 008) at each campus. Fyi: SB 490 Each school district board of trustees must include the number of school counselors providing counseling services at each campus in the annual report that is published describing the educational performance of the district and of each campus in the district.

SB 490 TSDS PEIMS Data Changes The reporting of E1057 MONTHLY-MINUTES will be applicable for counselors (ROLE-ID 008) in the 2018-2019 school year on the StaffResponsibilitiesExtension complex type to accomplish the requirement of SB 490. Business validations have been updated to allow counselors to be reported with the MONTHLY-MINUTES data element (E1057).

SB 1873 Physical Fitness - Background SB 1873, passed during the 85th legislative session (2017), amends TEC 38.0141 to require the following: The Commissioner must complete a report on physical education (PE) provided by each school district; publish the results on the Texas Education Agency’s website. SB 1873 requires reporting of certain health and safety information to TEA.

Of the required report contents, the published report must include the following: Report Requirement Data Source for Report Requirement the number of physical education classes offered at each campus in the district and detail the number of days, classes, and minutes offered each week by each campus; TSDS PEIMS (Eight new data elements being added with this proposal) the ratio of students enrolled in physical education classes in the district compared to the overall enrollment; TSDS PEIMS Staff Responsibility Data currently collected the average physical education class size at each campus in the district; the number of physical education teachers in the district who are licensed, certified, or endorsed by an accredited teacher preparation program to teach physical education; State Board of Educator Certification (SBEC) ECOS system whether each campus in the district has the appropriate equipment and adequate facilities for students to engage in the amount and intensity of physical activity required under Section 28.002; School Health Survey administered by the Curriculum Standards and Student Support Division whether the district allows modifications or accommodations that allow physical education courses to meet the needs of students with disabilities; and whether the district has a policy that allows teachers or administrators in the district to withhold physical activity from a student as punishment. The legislation requires TEA to publish a report that identifies the following:
