WELCOME MR. JAGO ENGLISH 2S ROOM 309

What do I expect? Open-mindedness Willingness to learn Patience Participation Self-Motivation

What do you expect? ________________

mr. jago Who is Mr. Jago? Jay-GO Graduate of Kean University. Best looking teacher at WHS by the National Council of Good Looking Teachers (it’s a real thing.) Could be your favorite class or your most hated (Neither choice bothers me in the least.)

Contact information School Wires — all assignments and due dates will be posted through this website (Under complete assignments and due dates section) Twitter: @MJago_WHS Email: michael.jago@woodbridge.k12.nj.us Room 305 - 1st block Usually in Room 303 or 315 during C lunch. Professional Block- 2nd block, Room 315 (I may not always be there, but this would be a good place to start.)

Let’s talk about this class

Class necessities We utilize technology in this class. Remind 101 and Google Classroom are two of the biggest tools the class will use. Google Classroom Class codes: Block 3- 2na3ecx Block 4- 3v0n9c Remind 101 Class Codes: Block 3- @bc7hd2 Block 4- @8h4he6

Class necessities 10th grade online textbook You have all been added to the class through the online textbook. The online textbook is located at www.pearsonrealize.com You will be responsible for knowing your password and username. If you don’t know it you need to see me immediately! The password for every student will be ‘english10’ See Google Classroom for a list of the usernames.

Daily routine You should be seated at the sound of the bell, ready with all the tools needed for class. Tools include pens, notebook, journals, textbook, etc. Class participation points may be deducted for not being prepared. The first 10-15 minutes of class will be a writing period. If there is a Do Now, expectation is that it is completed within 5-10 minutes after the bell rings.

Daily Routine Being prepared and on-time will help you in the long run. You will get two weekly grades. One being the class participation grade and the other being your daily writing grade. There will be no surprises in here. I will keep you informed and updated on what is expected for class, so there should be no excuses!

PLAGIARISM Plagiarism will NOT be tolerated, and will be taken seriously. Any assignment that is plagiarized will result in a 0 for the grade, which can not be made up. Disciplinary action as a result of plagiarism will be at the discretion of the teacher (a.k.a. ME, a.k.a. THE BOSS, a.k.a. Mr. Wonderful). Bottom line: You’re brilliant, use your own work!!

PLAGIARISM

grading 100% scale 50% minor (homework, quizzes, class work, class participation.) 50% major (tests, projects, etc.) Class participation includes being PREPARED!! Being prepared means having paper, a pencil, a notebook, etc. (Points can be taken off for being unprepared.) Late work will result in a late grade (-10 points for every day late.)

Homework Homework will be given on a need-to-do basis. I would like to cover subjects in class, but sometimes it is a necessity for you to either finish or reinforce the subject matter from class that day. Whining will not deter homework from happening, so conserve your energy!

attendance Attendance is important to success in the class Eight absences results in a loss of credit Eight lates results in loss of credit Two cuts is loss of credit

Respect each other! Mutual respect is a necessity. Class interruptions will NOT be tolerated. You don’t have to be here if you don’t want to be. One person speaks during discussions ZERO use of profanity and negative comments towards someone. Any deliberate breaking of this rule will result in disciplinary action.

Electronics and food Use of cell phones is prohibited unless directed to do so. 1st offense- verbal warning 2nd offense- I will ask for cell phone and bring it to the office. Write up submitted for electronics usage/refusal to give up cell phone. Please do not eat in the classroom. The cockroaches are huge, and you are all gross and messy. Bottled water is okay.

CELL PHONE USAGE Classroom Cell Phone Policy Student use of cell phones other than for teacher approved instructional purposes will result in the following consequences 1: Teacher will ask that you put cell phone away 2: Teacher will ask you for the phone and turn it in to Main Office If you refuse to turn in cell phone you will face the following disciplinary actions: 1st Offense: ½ Day ACS 2nd Offense: 1-2 Days ACS 3rd Offense: 2-3 Days ACS 4th Offense: 1 Day OSS 3. Students who refuse to turn in phone and continue to defy teacher will be sent to the office to face additional disciplinary action 4. Students are NOT permitted to charge cell phones in class!

Make-up work If you are absent, it is your responsibility to get work that is missed. All assignments will be listed on Schoolwires. I will not chase you for make up work. Work will be marked as absent in Genesis for 2 days, then it will be marked as missing. Check Schoolwires or ask a classmate.

Make-up work Make up work will be accepted for a late grade at the teacher’s discretion. Please avoid handing me a stack of make up work at the end of the marking period. Stay motivated! GET YOUR WORK IN ON TIME! Save yourself a bunch of trouble and hand in your assignments on time. Again, I will NOT chase you for make up work.

Work formatting All work that is handed in (unless directed otherwise) should be typed and printed out. Written work should be in blue or black ink. In the top right corner of all handed in work: Name Date Block

Passes I will never stop you from going to the bathroom. One person is allowed to the bathroom at a time Please try and keep bathroom visits to a minimum. Try not to go every single day during our class. Passes to the office, guidance, lockers, etc. will be at the teacher’s discretion.
