Year 6 Reading Gladiators St Matthew’s Primary School Our final challenge!

Fundraising The Gladiators decided to raise money to leave a library legacy – some great new titles for future children to enjoy… So… We baked cakes Sold off discarded library books and told stories at the first St Matthew’s Reading Picnic

Our Reading Picnic Our reading picnic was a huge celebration of reading. We are sorry that GDPR restrictions mean that we can’t share more pictures. You can see us storytelling and encouraging the youngest children to get involved – and also working in a team with the staff.

Funds for the library By the time we had finished, we had raised over £150

Time for some editorial meetings…

and some critical discussion…

and a visit to Peters Booksellers

It was hard to decide how to spend the money but it was good to see the order.

They gave us a discount! We could buy some extras! Here are some more titles we chose… When the Mountains Roared was recommended to use by Fleur Hitchcock who visited us last term. I Dare You won the Children’s Book Award but we didn’t have a school copy.

We also liked the look of these…

Now we just have to wait for the books … and hope that the children who come after us enjoy them.
