Project Vision Children in our community will grow, learn, and succeed through strong and connected families. 11/20/2018

Success By 6 Goals Focus community resources on preparing children for success in school and life. Build private and public relations to better serve children’s needs. Create linkages between existing programs to improve access to resources and services. 11/20/2018

Target Populations Young Children The Un- or Under-served The primary focus is families with children birth – 6 yrs. old The Un- or Under-served Children and families who are not receiving services from any other program Community Leaders A secondary target are those decision makers in our community 11/20/2018

How SB6 Works United Way convenes community leaders to determine the issues and develop solutions. The community is mobilized to take action and deliver results. Efforts are focused on: Increasing awareness about early childhood growth and development Improving access to critical health and human services while advocating for policy that supports all children. 11/20/2018

SB6 in DeSoto Co. Identified population of immobile Underserved children for lack of transportation Need of educational resources for families Books to read to children/grandchildren Modeling of appropriate activities Information on resources & services in our community 11/20/2018

Taking Action The SB6 Steering Committee realized the key to being effective is not to wait for families to come to us, but instead to go to them. Thus…the Success By 6 Mobile Resource Unit / “The Big Blue Bus” 11/20/2018

Making It Happen The School Board of DeSoto County located a bus and began renovations. We now have a family-friendly, air-conditioned, fully outfitted bus with a range of learning materials and resources. 11/20/2018

Funding Much of this has been made possible through generous contributions by the Bank of America Foundation, which granted more than $78,000 to the project. $12,000 in 2001; $46,000 in 2002; and an additional $20,000 in 2003. Bank of America is committed to kids. 11/20/2018

Off and Running Beginning in October 2002 the bus began making regular stops at childcare centers, local schools, churches and area businesses. 11/20/2018

Current Status Two regular weekly stops at neighborhoods in the community. This is what it’s all about! 11/20/2018
