Technical Scope of Work Nov 2016

Introduction This is a basic review of the Technical Scope of Work Template.

Intent The intent of the Technical SOW is to identify “What” the work is without describing “How” or “When” to do the work. It also identifies the associated documents that define the total scope of work The Technical SOW is issued to the Project Management Office (PMO) for implementation.

General Example: “a Flotation Launder Spray System” to “Improve Nickel Recoveries and reduce manual cleaning requirements.”

General These sections provide the details for the work. By including this statement up front, there is no need to include the terms “Supply” and “Install” within the scope items. Any work “not included” will be specified by the PMO elsewhere in the contract documents as “Work by Others” and/or “Material Supplied by Others”

Discipline Scope Note in the example above that the items to be removed are identified but the methodology is not. The methodology is up to the contractor who must have a demolition plan Text in “Blue” is part of the template and serves as an example. It is meant to be deleted in the final version of the Technical SOW Sections that are not applicable to the job are deleted from the scope of work

Discipline Scope Note: Scope items are kept general and do not include details. The intent is that the drawings provide the details and stay with the drawing once archived. The description will usually include the physical location of the item.

Discipline Scope In the example above, note the use of the words “System” and “etc.” for the conveyor and for the piping. This is intended to catch all items associated with the conveyor or the piping system. Also, the general statements under “Piping” help to avoid extras on a job.

Discipline Scope Electrical and instrumentation descriptions may have to be more specific due to the nature of the discipline. Keep the statements general and avoid including things such as cable sizes or other equipment sizes. If there is a change to the cable or breaker size on the drawing, the change could be missed in the scope.

Discipline Scope Note: Other groups use this template for their scopes of work. As with other sections, if this section is not applicable to your work package, it is deleted.

Drawings Note: Drawings produced for Vale are intended to be design drawings and not fabrication drawings. The contractor is responsible for the “Fit” of the installation. It is up to the contractor to verify the dimensions in the field prior to fabrication where necessary.

Drawings Note: There are 3 types of drawings associated with the work Working Drawings: The ones produced for this job. Reference Drawings: These will have reference information (usually existing facilities or vendor information) that will help the contractor execute the work Standard Engineering Drawings: Most of the Standard Drawings posted on the Vale Standards website are listed are pre-populated in the template to save time on data entry. Delete the ones that are not applicable to the work.

Standards Engineering Standards Most of the Engineering Standards are listed here to save on data entry time. Delete the ones that are not applicable to the work.
