Presentation transcript:

LSE European Institute – European Council on Foreign Relations LSE European Institute – European Council on Foreign Relations in association with the European Foreign Policy Unit and the Jean Monnet Programme “Assessing Europe’s Global Power in 2011: The ECFR European Foreign Policy Scorecard” Panel Speakers: Chair: Maurice Fraser, LSE • Mark Leonard, ECFR Date: Tuesday, 7 February 2012 • Prof Karen Smith, LSE Time: 18.30 • More speakers tbc Venue: Wolfson Theatre, LSE New Academic Building (NAB) The European Foreign Policy Scorecard is an annual evaluation by the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) of Europe’s performance in pursuing its interests and promoting its values in the world. At a time when new powers are emerging and the international system is undergoing profound changes, the Scorecard is intended to raise awareness of the existence of a European foreign policy and to encourage a debate about the best policies to be pursued in defence of our values and interests. Last year’s first edition of the Scorecard was described by Foreign Affairs as a “pioneering experiment in foreign policy analysis”. The publication of the second edition will allow for comparison and for the first time also look at European policy in the Middle East and North Africa in a pivotal year for the region. Speakers will discuss the findings of this year’s scorecard and assess the effectiveness of European foreign policy in 2011.  This is a free and open public lecture. No ticket required.
