Darwin’s Finches A Finch in a Pinch

Darwin’s Finches Are the 13 different species of Finch found on the Galapagos Islands. The study of these birds helped inspire Darwin’s theories.

Common Ancestor Darwin’s observations led him to believe that all 13 species evolved from a common ancestor.

Divergence A bird’s beak is a tool adapted for survival. Darwin’s Finches are an example of divergence of closely related species. Each species have evolved its’ own beak variation suited to a specific food source.

Galapagos Islands

Food Sources

Each Group: A Time Keeper A Recorder A Finch Be fair and take turns, there are 6 trials on each island. (10 seconds per trial)

Food for Thought for our Finch Brains How do food sources and environment affect species? How do they affect the evolution of a species?
