How do I stay on the GREATER path? Stay Humble Pride: a puffed up view of self (pride is about me being glorified) Proverbs 16:18 Matthew 23:12

Proverbs 16:18 Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.

Matthew 23:12 For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

How do I stay on the GREATER path? Stay Humble Jesus’s examples of GREATER Matthew 18:1-4 Luke 22:24-26 John 13:12-17 Philippians 2:3-11

Matthew 18:1-4 At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” He called a little child and had him stand among them. And he said: “I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 18:1-4 Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven

Luke 22:24-26 Also a dispute arose among them as to which of them was considered to be greatest. Jesus said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who exercise authority over them call themselves Benefactors.

Luke 22:24-26 But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves.

John 13:12-17 When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.

John 13:12-17  I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.

Philippians 2:3-11 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:

Philippians 2:3-11 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death— even death on a cross!

Philippians 2:3-11 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

How do I stay on the GREATER path? Stay Sharp You lose your edge without regular trips to the sharpener. Ecclesiastes 10:10 Sharpen Each Other Proverbs 27:17

Ecclesiastes 10:10 If the ax is dull and its edge unsharpened, more strength is needed, but skill will bring success.

Proverbs 27:17 As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.

How do I stay on the GREATER path? Stay Sharp You lose your edge without regular trips to the sharpener. Ecclesiastes 10:10 Be Sharpened by The Word Hebrews 4:12

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

How do I stay on the GREATER path? Don’t Stay Down Proverbs 14:16 Deceptive Fall Get Back Up (pit crew) Confess (tell each other) James 5:16

Proverbs 14:16 for though a righteous man falls seven times, he rises again, but the wicked are brought down by calamity.

Psalm 139:23-24 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

James 5:16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.
