Mock Trial January Meeting January 12, 2016

Rules and Structure of Competition Opening Statement- 5 Minutes per side Direct and Redirect Examination (25 Minutes per side) Cross and Recross Examination (20 Minutes per side) Closing Arguments (5 Minutes per side

Rules and Structure of Competition Each team has one timekeeper - does not have to be one of the official 8 members. Teams must prepare both the Prosecution and Defense sides of the case Six team members in each trial round. For each trial round, teams shall use three students as attorneys and three students as witnesses. No outside evidence is allowed

Rules and Structure of Competition 3 Lawyers- Each Lawyer does a direct and cross, and one lawyer does the Opening while another does the Closing 1. Opening Statements 2. Direct Examination of Witness #1 3. Direct Examination of Witness #2 4. Direct Examination of Witness #3 5. Cross Examination of Witness #1 6. Cross Examination of Witness #2 7. Cross Examination of Witness #3 8. Closing Argument (including Rebuttal)

Preparing for the Case Lawyers are allowed to use notes, witnesses are not. Witnesses And Lawyers must both memorize lines. Both Sides must be prepared by each team, but only one side is presented per round.
