China Automotive Technology and Research Center Co., Ltd GTRQRTV-06-08 8th GRB ASEP IWG, Baltimore, 30-31 May 2018. Introduction of China AVAS requirements and test methods of electric vehicles running at low speed China Automotive Technology and Research Center Co., Ltd 1 1

Contents A summary of AVAS and related standards in China Scope (vehicle categories and technical categories) GB/T XXXXX-20xx <Acoustic vehicle alerting system of electric vehicles running at low speed> Key points and problems Items for future 2

A summary of AVAS and related standards in China Standards No. Requirements Test methods GB 7258-2017 <Technical specifications for safety of power-driven vehicles operating on roads> √ GB/T 28382-2012 <Battery electric passenger cars - Specifications> GB/T 34585-2017 <Battery electric goods vehicles - Specifications> GB/T 32694-2016 <Plug-in hybrid passenger cars - Specifications> GB/T XXXXX-20xx <Acoustic vehicle alerting system of electric vehicles running at low speed> *The necessity of AVAS standard was firstly realized in M1 category battery electric vehicles in year 2012. 3

Scope of AVAS and related standards in China Technical M1 M2 M3 N1 N2 N3 Battery EV √ Hybrid Plug-in Others Fuel cell GB 7258=√, GB/T 28382= √, GB/T 34585=√, GB/T 32694 = √, GB/T XXXXX= √ 4

GB/T XXXXX-20xx Working group established, 2014.3; Timetable of GB/T XXXXX-20xx Working group established, 2014.3; Waiting for approval, 2017.8. Consideration China background noise. Other GB or GB/T standards. UN R138 Uniform provisions concerning the approval of Quiet Road Transport Vehicles with regard to their reduced audibility (QRTV). 5

GB/T XXXXX-20xx Technical parameters Scope: M1 and N1 categories pure electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles with pure electric driving mode, and fuel cell electric vehicles. Speed Range: 0 < V ≤ 20 km/h, optional at 0 km/h speed; Sound level: 10 km/h - 52 dB(A), 20 km/h - 58 dB(A); max - 75 dB(A); 2 dB(A) higher than UN R138; Freq. Shift: when the speed is in the range of 5-20 km/h, at least one 1/3 octave frequency will increase with the speed of the car. The minimum average frequency shift rate of this frequency should satisfy ≥ 0.8% (km/h). Pause function: optional. 6

Key points and problems Sound @ 0km/h GB 7258-2017 <Technical specifications for safety of power-driven vehicles operating on roads> GB/T 28382-2012 <Battery electric passenger cars - Specifications> GB/T 34585-2017 <Battery electric goods vehicles - Specifications> *When vehicles are starting, and the speed is lower than 20km/h, AVAS should work. GB/T 32694-2016 <Plug-in hybrid passenger cars - Specifications> *When vehicles are running at E-mode, and the speed is lower than 20km/h, AVAS should work. GB/T 12535 Motor vehicle—Starting performance—Test method *Starting performance = ready + go Conclusion: Sound@0km/h should be make certain. 7

Key points and problems Limit value The sound level and frequency parameters clear enough for alerting? *The sound should be easily be recognized by ----Car and transport management authorities ----Blind people ----Aged people and children ----Absent-minded people (smart phone users) Pause function Reduce the noise pollution on specific situations such as: residential area during middle night; *Depends on sound level and frequency parameters. Possibility of more accidents caused by pause function. *When vehicles are starting, and the speed is lower than 20km/h, AVAS should work. 8

Items for future Scope Harmonize different GB and GB/T standards scopes (vehicles and technical categories Pause function、Sound @ 0km/h Uniform requirements on pause function、sound @ 0km/h *Based on safety, *Sound quality. Limit value Feedback of the limit value now ----Car and transport authorities ----Blind people ----Aged people and children ----Absent-minded people (smart phone users) How to decide if the AVAS is working, paused or failure? 9
