Community Service Award Gwin Elementary School 2016 – 2017

Volunteering your time to help others in need. Community Service is… Volunteering your time to help others in need.

Gwin Elementary School Community Service Award Students at Gwin Elementary can receive a Community Service Award by completing at least two hours of community service by May 5, 2017.

We hope you will go above and beyond by completing more than 2 hours of community service!

3 Rules of Community Service

Rule #1 You can’t get paid Community service has to be done for free. If money is collected for community service then100% of the money has to be donated to charity.

Rule #2 You can’t do it for your family Helping mom, dad, brothers, sisters, grandma, grandpa, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. does not count. You can always do community service with your family!

Rule #3 You can’t do it during school hours If you do community service during the week, it has to be done before school starts or when school is over. Community service can be done on the weekends.

NEVER do community service alone. Be safe!!! When doing community service, you should always be supervised by an adult. NEVER do community service alone.

Hanson Lister, Garrett Brasher and Noah Lister picked up trash at the Moss Rock Preserve.

Nick Berg and his older brothers, Mason and Jake sorted through donated food at the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama this summer.

On Saturday, October 4th, Abby & Kyle Lemp and Kiley & Briggs Marett held a Lemonade Stand for Children's Hospital of AL Pediatric Oncology. We posted in FB to our homeowners assoc. of Lake Crest and to our friends. The kids baked cookies and made lemonade as well as made a poster. In total, they each spent 3 hours. The kids sold cups of lemonade for $1.00 and 2 cookies for $.50. In total, the kids raised $98.00 from the 2 hour sale. They had a great time and were happy to share that the sale was for charity after waving at cars and driving by😊.

Emma Voytanovsky, Hope Carden, Gianna Davito and Kennady Baxter participated in the "Backpack Program".  The purpose of the project was to make backpacks for children that had to be quickly removed from their home and placed in a foster home.  The backpack was to be filled with things that a child might need if they went to a new home with only the clothes on their back.  Each girl picked out a backpack, then we shopped for PJs, underwear, an outfit, toiletries, a snack, and a couple of things to bring the child comfort (stuffed animal, coloring book, etc.).  The backpacks were delivered to the Alabama Baptist Children's Home.

Vincent Aspito helping unload the U-Haul truck for Simmons Middle School's musical set 'Hairspray Jr.'.

Phoenix Sides made bird feeders for the Alabama Wildlife Center on their Family Service Day on November 22, 2014.
