Psalms 148 “Let us Praise the Lord”

Psalms 148 “Let us Praise the Lord”

Introduction: The message of Psalms 148 is simple, and I like simple Introduction: The message of Psalms 148 is simple, and I like simple. Everything and everyone in heaven and on earth should praise the Lord. A) The Roster of those in Heaven that should Praise the Lord includes all the angels and all inanimate things in heaven. vs.2-4 1) The heavenly roster includes all the angels, v.2 (I Kgs.6) 2) The heavenly roster includes all the inanimate things in heaven, vs.3-4. “The highest heavens” is literally, “the heavens of heaven,” and refers to the distant galaxies and stars or the place where God dwells. How? By doing a being what God created them to be and do.

* The reason that those in heaven should praise the Lord is because He created them and has established them forever, vs. 5-6. B) Everything and everyone on earth should praise the Lord, vs.7-14 1) Everything non-human on earth should praise the Lord vs. 7-10 2) Everything human should praise the Lord, vs.11-12 *The reasons are, His name is exalted, His glory is greater, He has lifted up a horn, Praise is meant for His people.

Lessons: 1) Everything and everybody is meant to Praise Him Lessons: 1) Everything and everybody is meant to Praise Him. All were created and established by Him, He is exalted and His glory compares to none other. *What does it mean to praise? How do we praise the Lord? Praise defined: Bless, Exalt, Extol, Glorify, Magnify, Thanks, Confess. Praise achieved: Singing, Sharing, Words that give credit to Him, Fellowshipping out Love with other believers. Remembering Christ, Prayer, Study of His Word, Fasting, Forgiving, Gratitude.

2) We praise Him- “He has lifted up a horn for His people,” A horn in scripture emphasizes strength, power, victory, assurance of victory, glory, honor, dignity. I believe this is a reference to Christ our Savior, (Luke 1:67-79). It in this text implies Savior and King who rules, governs, protects, defends, and preserves His people by His power. *We praise Him because of this and in turn is brings praise for us His godly ones.

One passage that summarizes it all for us: Colossians 3:17, “And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.” Why praise? If there is one reason I would identify for you today from this text it is, the horn of salvation that has been raised up for us in Christ. Conclusion: Story of a man with one coat: “I thank Him that He has given me my life and being, a heart to love Him, and above all a constant desire to serve Him!” “I’ll Praise my Maker While I’ve Breath.”
