La biographie Renoir lived and worked for most of his life in Paris. At thirteen, he began to work in porcelain factory; his talent was recognized and he was allowed to hand paint designs on china. In 1860 he met Claude Monet; they later became co-founders of IMPRESSIONISME. 1862 he went to École des Beaux-Arts to study arts. He met Lise Trehot who became his model and mistress.

Renoir made his name as a society portrait painter and enjoyed fame and wealth while still alive. 1880 he met his future wife, Aline Charigot who was painted by Renoir in many of his famous paintings (Luncheon at the boating party, umbrellas). He had three sons. He took his distant cousin, Gabrielle Renard, to take care of his children. She stayed with his family all his life and became his model. In 1887 he suffered from an attack of muscular rheumatism that eventually crippled him and confined him to a wheelchair.

Renoir moved to Riviera – south of France – where he lived till his death in 1919. Renoir was a “celebrator of beauty, and especially feminine sensuality, it has been said that "Renoir is the final representative of a tradition which runs directly from Rubens to Watteau”. He created over 6000 paintings.
