Childhood & Self-Portraits Capturing the REALISM of the human face…!!! Jake 10th grade Capturing the REALISM of the human face…!!!

How to grid your photo Measure from the corners of the image…NOT the corners of the paper Number along the top and one side…this example uses 1 inch squares The grid must be neat…take your time and use the ruler carefully

How to grid the drawing paper Divide the number of squares across the top and down the side into the dimensions of the paper you have… Example with 18x24 paper: 18 divided by 7 = 2.5 24 divided by 8 = 3 You must make squares on the drawing paper so you take the smaller number to create your grid on the larger paper…you’d use 2.5

Drawing the large outline from the smaller photo Draw the lines and shapes you see going square by square…

Value contrast: critical as it adds visual interest and impact to drawings. Mackenzie 11th grade

Cropping the composition…and controlling the pencil to create smooth values and realism. Focal Point Negative space Balance Movement Value Contrast Unity Mastery of the pencil!!! Mac 12th grade

Gridding the photo helps you capture correct proportions and placement of features. Nkemdi 11th grade

Eventually you can learn to draw without the aide of a grid and learn to master color… Amani 12th grade
