HEAD WORKS at source in river cauvery Vengur station - 1st (at Land) & 2nd at River bed Puthapuram station - 3rd at River bed Keelamullakudi station - 4th at river bed Pumps 60 HP - 8 nos with one stand by at all stations River Position during summer

WATER SUPPLY SITUATION FACED during 2017 No drop of water getting collected in our Vengur gallery well and we were pumping only bore water from the river to fill the pumping well and then pumping it to BHEL Less yield in all Bores & frequent breakdown of bore pumps due to drop of ground water level Blockage of flow by railway pumphouse by providing sand check dams Summer channeling work being frequently done and broken in-between by sand miners. Low quality of water being collected causing frequent chocking of filters at eq reservoir and frequent back washing Problem in pumping water to first floor quarters since all the ground floor taps are kept open most of the times More then 5 points additional points from the direct line (not from tank line) were taken by quarters residents without permission like 1) Garden point, 2) Washing machine point, 3) RO plant point, 4) Carwash point, 5) Floor and was wetting point. Only two authorized direct line points were given earlier for 1) kitchen and 2) bathroom Usage of pumps by quarters occupants for sucking water from the direct line to fill their tanks leading to emptying of line Wastage of water for gardening and for banana plantation by quarters residences Wastage of Cauvery water in factory for RO plant operation, nursery maintenance of factory and township Wastage of water in canteens for plate washing

WATER SUPPLY team initiatives taken Five new bores were drilled at our head works Continuous monitoring of the Summer channeling being done by patrolling Automation of the main pumps operation at head works were done. Re-filtering arrangement of the filter back wash water being done Initiatives taken to cut the unauthorized additional points from the direct lines Presentation made to the union-representatives with photographs and video proofs about Wastage of water for gardening and for banana plantation by quarters residences during summer – circulars and notices distributed to quarters residence for water preservation and avoid wastage. Bore points divining work done in township and factory by utilizing twad board expertise Cross functional team formed to study the utilization of locally available water sources like bores and wells. Well water from temple well given to township nursery by providing a overhead tank at staged hight and putting submersible pump in the well. Treated hospital waste water being collected through water tanks and water of the garden plants done Collection tank provided for collection of ro reject water from hospital and facility made to taken it back through tanker for gardening 1mgd Coleroon project proposal made and sent to corporate office Upfront deposit amount paid to twad for Coleroon project investigation work and work in progress

New bores and lines

Coleroon River project under progress through Twad board

WATER CONSERVATION INITIATIVES TAKEN Established Slow Sand filter in EQ reservoir and achieved recurring savings of 5,00,000 liter of CaUvery river water / day

WATER CONSERVATION INITIATIVES TAKEN Improved the treatment system in Waste Water Treatment Plant at BHEL Hospital and received appreciation letter from EMS department and appreciation from TNPCB. Water supply to horticulture tankers given through this system. Given 50,000 liters of treated water/day TO NURSERY and saved cauvery water.

WATER CONSERVATION INITIATIVES TAKEN Rain Water Harvesting structure of 1,35,000 liters capacity made along the main rainwater drain in township

WATER SUPPLY TEAM WORKING DAY AND NIGHT AT ODD LOCATIONS.

WATER wasted in township

Ways to Conserve Water at Home 1. Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth. 2. Turn off the tap while scrubbing your hands before washing. 3. Instead of letting water pour down for temperature change, collect the first hot water in a bucket which can be used for flushing toilet. 4. Fix the leaks. Intimate leaks and line bursts immediately to maintenance section for attending on priority. Surrounding water leaks may also be intimated immediately. 5. Re-use your cooking liquid for plants after cooling. 6. Rather than washing car at home, head to the car wash center which recycles the water. 7. Cut your showers short. Older shower heads can use as much as 22 LITERS OF WATER PER MINUTE. 08. Shrink your lawn and switch to plants that thrive in drought conditions. 09. Don’t run the washing machine until it’s full. 10. Check for any leakages in flushing cistern, if any inform to maintenance department. 11. Keep an eye on taps and spot leaks. 12. Install a RAIN BARREL. RAIN WATER HARVESTING is a great way to keep your plants hydrated without turning on the hose or sprinkler. 13. Flush with less. You can reduce your usage by sinking a FILLET WATER BOTTLE WITH CAP in the toilet tank TO REDUCE WATER VOLUME INSIDE THE FLUSH TANK. 14. Hand-washing a lot of dishes? Fill up your sink with water, instead of letting it run the whole time that you’re scrubbing. 15. Use less electricity. Power plants use thousands of gallons of water to cool. Do your part to conserve power, and you’re indirectly saving water, too! 16. Skip the shower from time to time. Use buckets for bathing.
