What are genes?

What are traits?

What is heredity?

How are traits passed down from parent to child?

Where are genes found?

What does your DNA code for? Proteins; molecules used by the cell for functions Proteins determine your traits; All traits come from proteins. The presence or absence of a single protein can also determine how an organism's body works or when its cells do their tasks. You can see one example in pea plants. A single protein determines whether a pea plant is tall or short. The gene for height on the plant's DNA molecule either codes for this special protein or it doesn't.

What is genetic engineering?
