Katelyn DeVos & Brittani Farmer Chattahoochee Technical College Incentivizing Fun: Increasing Involvement at a Multi-Campus Institution Katelyn DeVos & Brittani Farmer Chattahoochee Technical College

Chattahoochee Technical College 7 campuses with for credit classes (9 total) 6 counties 70+ degree, diploma, and certificates 45 programs of study 9,582 students currently enrolled 162 high school students registered for dual enrollment program

Office of Student Involvement Small Campuses: Appalachian, Paulding, Woodstock 1 event per month (fall & spring) Mid-Size Campuses: Mountain View & Canton 1 additional event during the course of the semester Large Campuses: Marietta & North Metro 2 events per month (fall & spring) Summer events vary per location based off of program enrollment

What was the problem? Low and inconsistent participation Inability to track student attendance at events No method to sign in – many students did not know their student ID numbers, or carry their student IDs with them Tried using multiple software's that were incompatible No reason for them to sign in for us track them Low recognition/awareness of department Inconsistent event location and promotion

Low Participation & Consistency Issue What possible solutions were there? Using faculty and staff to spread the word Increasing marketing and the presentation of the marketing Creating an incentive program

Incentive Programs Punch Card System External Rewards Program Internal Rewards Program The Chuck-E-Cheese System

The Selection Process The Chuck-E-Cheese system was difficult to determine prize support Instant gratification did not solve the consistency issue and long term gratification did not hold their attention Students could lose the punch card Internal Rewards program because we did not have the funding to support an external program, we were unsure if it would work, adds word of mouth participation from participants.

Assigning Value to Events 1-5 Scale 5/10 Scale Style of event Level of student interaction

Internal Rewards Program Sign In Process Awarding Points Managing the point system Student Responsibility Checking points Receiving Prizes Is it working?

Awarding Points Students must sign in with the correct information Signage with number of points visible at each event Points advertised on marketing materials Challenges still present Students do not know their ID number Limited but active population of students do not have student ID number (GED if not enrolled more than 12 hours) Some students do not sign in but still participate

TRIVIA TIME!

Managing The Point System Sign in via Google Form Transferred to excel spreadsheet EB run/roll over Summer-Spring Student Name ID# C T Donut Stress Volunteer Fair Super bowl Party Eagle Week Mickey Mouse 123456789 10 20 5 Merida 987654321 Aladdin 369258147 Simba 147258369 25 Tinker Bell 741852963

Student Responsibility To check their Eagle Bucks they have to send an email to our account with their name, Student ID#, and ask how many Eagle Bucks they have Schedule pickup time if they have reached a prize level Information about pickup is presented at each event and is available on our webpage Prize pickup at select events Mid-Semester Checkup Exam Breakfast

Determining Prize Levels Find items that are cost effective but enticing for students Calculating what is attainable for students 1 – 5 Scale 10-100 Eagle Bucks- Increments of 10 Items that students can provide for themselves but these are CTC branded 100-200 Eagle Bucks – Increments of 25 More expensive and higher quality items that students are interested in but may not have the means to acquire

Determining quantity purchased Event calendar breakdown Feasibility of attaining larger prizes Previous 1-5 system it was not feasible Frequent flyers Is it working?
