Presentation transcript:

In the next few minutes I want to focus your attention on the T and E of STEM. Take a few seconds and think about what in this room is either not engineering and tech itself or does not have any interface with engineering and tech. So engieering is ubiquitous, how do we teach this across society particularly P12 and how do we create the pipeline?

Nebraska Engineering Ambassadors Network Sally Wei College of Engineering University of Nebraska - Lincoln

The Engineering Ambassadors Network is a nationwide network of colleges and universities designed to change the conversation on engineering. National network of universities whose main goal is to connect people (primarily K12) to engineering 3

EAN’s mission is two-fold: to develop engineering leaders as well as impact P-12 engineering education. Create. Connect. The mission is two-fold. Develop leadership and communication skills among our undergrads, be outreach focused for K-12 education. Change.

EAN members have a passion for connecting P-12 students to engineering using creative presentations and activities. We are a professional development organization with an outreach mission. Engineering ambassadors – select engineering students – are the engineering face of NE engineering. They work to engage younger generations in the excitement of engineering fields while garnering key leadership, presentation, and classroom management skills for their own educational and professional development.

Presentations are based on engineering applications to generate student interest. Rollercoasters Earthquakes Boats

Engineering ambassadors are helping to demystify engineering and reinforce engineering habits of mind among P-12 students. Provide consistent messaging

In the 2015-2016 academic year, we reached over 5400 students. School visits: 3000 students Grades K-5: 1400 Grades 6-8: 541 Grades 9-12: 1067 Science Fairs and other events: 2402 students

A pilot project has begun to evaluate the impact of EAN on P-12 students.

Together, we can change the conversation the P-12 community is having about engineering. Questions?
