Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN) A set of standards, services and policies that enable secure Health Information Exchange (HIE) over the Internet Provide a foundation for the exchange of health information across diverse entities in communities across the country; critical part of National Health IT Agenda CONNECT Implements NHIN standards and governance Built by 20 federal agencies - managed by Federal Health Architecture (FHA) Open source software gateway Supports Health Information Exchange (local & national). Ensures HIEs are compatible with other exchanges NHIN and CONNECT are managed by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONCHIT) in the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS).
