Photosynthesis. Photosynthesis in Overview Process by which plants store the energy of sunlight into sugars. Requires sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide.
Photosynthesis & Respiration. What is Photosynthesis? The process of photosynthesis is a chemical reaction. It is the most important chemical reaction.
Sources of Energy All living things need energy All cells need energy to carry out their functions.

 Learning Goal: Explain how the sun supplies living things with the energy they need. Explain photosynthesis.  Warm up: Why do plants need light?  Homework:
Big Idea. Science Standard 7.1.d: Students know that mitochondria liberate energy for the work that cells do and that chloroplasts capture sunlight.
Photosynthesis Notes 1)On your notes, define photosynthesis. You can use your book! 2)Answer: Photosynthesis is the process by which a cell captures energy.
A. chloroplasts b. leaves c. nucleus d. cell membrane 1.
Photosynthesis Photosynthesis is the process by which plants make their own food.
Aim: How do plant cells photosynthesize to make food? DO NOW: 1. What color do chloroplasts, in plant cells, have? Why? 2. What is the purpose of this.

Today is Monday, October 15, 2012 Homework: Read Chapter 4, Lesson 1 Warm UP: In your table groups, look at the picture and identify the different organs of this plant (roots, stem, leaves, flowers). What do you think the purpose of each organ is? Share as a class when finished.

This week…… Tuesday = Ch. 4, Lesson 2 Wednesday = Lab (Tropism) Chapter 3 Tests back tomorrow (Tuesday) Homework Packet assigned (Due Friday) Wednesday = Lab (Tropism) Thursday = Ch. 4, Lesson 3 (part I) Friday = Ch. 4, Lesson 3 (part II) NEXT WEEK: Monday = Ch. 4, Lesson 4 Tuesday = Mr. Gross’s Wonderful World of Triva Wednesday = Chapter 4 Test

Objective: SWBAT demonstrate an understanding of the role of photosynthesis by identifying the process and where it takes place. SWABT demonstrate the ability to compare the organizations of cells to form structures in plants and animals by finding similarities between leaf tissue and skin tissue. Standards: Life Science: Students know how sugar, water, and minerals are transported in a vascular plant. Life Science: Students know plants use carbon dioxide and energy from sunlight to build molecules of sugar and release oxygen

Epidermis Tissue Spongy Tissue Vessel Tissue Stomata

What is so important about leaves anyway????? Contain chloroplasts Chloroplasts contain chlorophyll (the green color you see in plants) PHOTOSYNTHESIS!!!!!!! (photo = light; synthesis = to make something) Carbon dioxide + water + sunlight  oxygen + sugar Sugar!!!!!!!!! Plants use sugar for energy and to make cellulose, which is a chemical that makes cell walls strong

Closing it up…… Write ONE thing you learned today at the bottom of your leaf tissue diagram and show me before you leave
