What is OYAP? OYAP exists in every school board in the province OYAP is funded by the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities (MTCU) Funding is administered to school boards upon approval of the annual OYAP business plan OYAP is a kindergarten to grade 12 program which promotes the apprenticeship pathway as a viable post secondary option The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) is a school-to-work transition program which promotes student success by opening the door for students to explore and work in apprenticeship occupations.
What are the goals of OYAP? To market and promote the skilled trades and apprenticeship to students, parents, teachers, and employers 2. To respond to the Ontario governments anticipated trades sector labour shortage by increasing the number of secondary students who begin their apprenticeship while working towards their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) 3. To build key labour, community and employer partnerships Market & promote the skilled trades Increase the number of apprentices Create & support partnerships

How are we addressing the goals of OYAP in Simcoe County? Increase the Number of Apprentices OYAP Participant Because of OYAP, students are eligible to participate in work experiences through the cooperative education program in both compulsory and non-compulsory trades. Students must : Be working towards their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD); Be at least 16 years of age; Have a minimum of 16 high school credits and, Be enrolled in school as a full time student. OYAP Participant with a Registered Training Agreement (RTA) OYAP Participants who demonstrate ability , interest and motivation may become registered apprentices while working towards their OSSD.

Increase the Number of Apprentices OYAP Registrations account for 19% of all RTA’s signed out of the local apprenticeship office – that’s 1 in 5 Approximately 700 OYAP participants in Simcoe County annually Approximately 175 OYAP participants with an RTA 100% of OYAP participants with an RTA graduate from high school
