Life cycle of a snake All snakes molt or shed. Most mother snakes lay eggs other mother snakes give birth to live babies. Mother snakes do not take care of their babies. The baby snakes have a razor sharp tooth on its upper jaw. It rubs this tooth back and forth on the inside of the eggshell. New born snakes struggle long and hard to get free.
