Penalty clock responsibilities Keep accurate account of penalty times. Inform the penalized player when penalty time expires. Assist the officials in keeping the penalty area clear. Notify officials and coaches of remaining penalty time upon request.

Penalties – brief explanation Penalty times vary depending on type of foul: Technical Fouls: 30 seconds Personal Fouls: 1 to 3 minutes depending on infraction. The Referee will indicate the length of time. (if a player accumulates 5 minutes of personal foul time, player is disqualified from participating in remainder of game) Personal Fouls are either: RELEASABLE: Player is released when the penalty time expires OR when the opposing team scores a goal. Multiple releasable penalties on a single player are all released on an opposing goal. NON RELEASABLE: Player is released ONLY when the penalty time expires. Non- releasable penalties are served first if there are multiple penalties on one player. The Referee will tell you if it’s releasable or non-releasable.

Timing player penalties Penalty timing stops & starts with the officials whistle. Call out when 10 seconds are remaining in a player’s penalty and then count down from 5 seconds (“5, 4, 3,…”) and then call out loudly “RELEASED” when their penalty time hits zero. Penalty time carries over to the next period. If a player has multiple simultaneous penalties, the non-releasable penalty is served first.

Policing penalty area Officials count players serving penalties at a glance. (only imminent subs and players serving penalties may be in the Sub/Table Area): Penalized player must kneel or sit in front of score table Imminent subs may be ready at front of box No one else in a jersey may be near the Table Area. You may enlist the assistance of the coaches in clearing the penalty box if necessary. Coach may sub penalized player in box at 5 sec left in penalty time. (Let Player & Coach know when 10 sec in penalty remains) If the officials call for a running clock: Penalty time initially starts with whistle to resume play Then runs with clock, doesn’t stop with whistle

Clock operation The penalty clock allows you to time up to four separate penalties simultaneously. You set the penalty time by pressing one of the “SET/CLEAR” buttons and then using the number buttons to enter the time. You can start and stop all clocks by pressing the “ALL CLOCKS” button at the lower right. The horn will sound when a penalty clock reaches zero. It may be canceled by pressing the “CLEAR” button on the lower left.
