Focus Standard ELAGSE8L4: Determine or clarify the meaning of unknown and multiple-meaning words or phrases based on grade 8 reading and content, choosing flexibly from a range of strategies.
Vocabulary Acquisition Pre-Assessment ½ piece of paper. Name, date, period, and title. Number your paper 1-10 (do not skip lines, please.) Read the passage and answer the questions. When you are done, turn your paper over and be patient.
When you read, what do you do when you come across a word you do not know? Quick Write- 5 minutes
S A I D S.A.I.D. Context Clues Synonyms- word or phrase that means the same as another word in the sentence. A Antonyms- word or phrase that is the opposite of another word in the sentence. I Inference- a conclusion is reached on the basis of evidence and reasoning. D Definition- the word or phrase has the meaning explained in the sentence.
Practice one Erick has a lot of anxiety about the test, but I have no worries about it.
