Information for every athlete 5 km run

Why Run? Running is the most effective exercise per minute you can do. Lowers blood pressure, reduces risk of cancer Improves mood and gives you goals to reach. Someday you will need to choose exercises that help you stay fit and maintain weight. Your metabolism will change! Running is a way to stay in shape that doesn’t require a team or multiple individuals

Time Standard GRADING FOR 5K USING PERSONAL RACE TIME : 1 MIN BUFFER = 100 % +2 MIN AFTER PERSONAL RACE TIME =90% +3 MIN AFTER PERSONAL RACE TIME = 80% +4 MIN AFTER PERSONAL RACE TIME = 70 % +5 MIN AFTER PERSONAL RACE TIME =60% +6 MIN AFTER PERSONAL RACE TIME = 50%

5K make up Thursday, June 8th at 2:30 on the track Different route (less fun and more tiring!) Only Doctors Note or Excused Absences will be allowed to make up!!!! You must go to 5th and 6th period on June 1st, you are NOT excused! Also, if you are a biker and already biked the 5k, you need to go to 5th and 6th (you are not excused)

Race Day Gear We will run the 5km rain or shine Bring running shoes! Make sure you hydrate!! Bring running shoes! Bring athletic clothing that’s appropriate Do not have to wear PE clothes. Wear something that represents Skyline High School. Inhaler? Epi-pen? No headphones on race –safety comes first! Remember, you are representing Skyline Appropriate clothing and behavior…always!!

When 12:00 get dressed and ready to check in. Head to Olympic Gym (organized by Bib #) to get bib and timing chip and arm band Immediately Sit in SPARTAN gym bleachers by waves National Anthem Walk to Start Line by WAVE start when called! Use cross walk Race Starts at 12:45 pm After 5 km run walk back to Skyline (not drive!)

Start Line Start on NE 8th by Vintage neighborhood Starting Chutes- Look for parents holding signs for your bib number. Line up in that chute. You must start with your wave time, do NOT start late or early!!!! Be sure to allow runners ahead of you to get in motion. Do not try to pass while we are on the dirt trail.

Running Route Stay on Sidewalks when possible! Stay off lawns Do not run down middle of the road! Look for traffic and be prepared to stop if needed. Watch For Traffic in roundabout. TURN RIGHT at Ingelwood Jr. Look for traffic as you run through lot. Tell parent volunteers “thank you” as you pass them! 

ROUTE

End of Race Clock on football field with current time; not your personal time! At the end of the race you : Turn in your arm band to volunteers $20 fine if you don’t turn it in! If you leave the field with your band, make sure your PE teacher gets it!

End of Race Once you are finished, you exit through the back entrance back to Skyline via 228th No going to Safeway/Taco Bell/Starbucks etc!!!! Automatic ZERO on the 5k if you are caught driving/getting picked up by ANYONE/going anywhere other than directly to SHS Automatic ZERO on the 5k and inability to make it up if you are caught cheating in any way
