Idea Given a generic quadratic equation. Use the steps we learned in 11.1 to create the the quadratic formula. The formula will have letters and operations. You will be given and equation and you will use the quadratic formulas to find the values for the unknown.
Quadratic Formula Given the quadratic equation ax² + bx + c = 0 the quadratic formula is
Steps Write equation in decreasing order Move constant to the other side Divide both sides by the leading coefficient Find the new constant C = [(1/2)b]² Add the new constant to both sides Factor one side, simplify the other Use the square root property Isolate the variable
Let us prove the quadratic formula Given ax² + bx + c = 0 Prove
