CASE STUDY Mapping Australia’s future to 2050 and beyond The Australian National Outlook brings together CSIRO’s integrated modelling capability to explore long term opportunities and challenges facing Australia. This capability was deployed in 2015 to explore the ‘energy- water-food nexus’ and the prospects for Australia’s materials- and energy-intensive industries in 2050. Building on the world leading scientific achievement of the Outlook (2015), the second Australian National Outlook (2018) explores Australia in 2060 focusing on three major themes of Natural Resources and Energy, Productivity and Services, and Cities and Infrastructure. Managed by CSIRO Futures, the second National Outlook combines CSIRO’s integrated modelling capability with input from over 50 business, non-government and academic leaders. The National Outlook helps discover what Australia’s future could look like and the actions we require to shape a strong and prosperous future for all Australians. Innovate. Improve. Grow.
CASE STUDY Identifying technology investments for competitive advantage CSIRO Futures was engaged by the Australian Department of Environment & Energy to develop a comprehensive analysis of the technology options available to help Australia meet its emissions abatement targets and create new opportunities for Australian industry. The Futures team worked with CSIRO’s energy, manufacturing and economic modelling research groups to develop a technology investment strategy that prioritised the key technologies available to reduce emissions and build on Australia’s comparative advantage. The Low Emissions Technology Roadmap was prepared for the Australian Department of the Environment and Energy to provide input to the Government’s 2017 Climate Policy Review. Innovate. Improve. Grow.
