Zaria Kelley Psy 310: Racial Discovery Dr. Wattles Take a In My Shoes… Zaria Kelley Psy 310: Racial Discovery Dr. Wattles

What is racism? prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior.

I am a black queen My name is Zaria Kelley. I am 21 years old. I have my own job, own car, and my own apartment. I am just as privileged as some whites. And I am AWARE that racism still exists.

Color Brave Vs. Color blind Mellody Hobson is the perfect example a successful black women in America today. “The FIRST step of solving any problem is not to hide from it. The first step to any form of action is awareness.” – Mellody Hobson We tend to ignore problems when it comes to race, therefore being color BLIND, when we should be embracing race and diversity, therefore being color BRAVE.

Police Brutality Just because it does not harm you at that time does not mean that it couldn’t possibly effect you in the future… THINK ABOUT IT If you think police brutality against blacks is not present… THINK AGAIN.

Police brutality cont… We are constantly victimized by police forces. Police do not have to shoot us 4,5,6, even 7 times before we start to act compliant, they CHOOSE to!

Charlottesville, va On the dates of August 11-12, 2017, there was a white supremacy rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. For those of you that think racism does not still exist you should watch this video below. Several African-Americans were injured.

Our nation and our “president” Our nation is falling apart, partly due to the man we call our President of the United States, Donald Trump. Donald Trump is a lying, deceitful man, who will do almost anything for attention. He is the epitome of racist. He had nothing terrible to say about the white supremacists rally in Virginia. He called our football players “Son’s of bitches” and that they should be fired for doing something that they believed in.

White privilege Las Vegas shooting: white man, 64 years old. Charleston Shooting: white man, 23 years old. Texas shooting: white man, 26 years old. DO YOU SEE THE TREND? News stations from all over have tried several times to justify the actions of these men saying that they may have had some sort of mental disorder. If a black man were to commit these types of crimes, there would be no justification of their actions.

Racial equality Dr. Wattles is the perfect example! He comes from a background where his family is not fond of black Americans but yet he still seems to treat all his students with the same amount of equality. He is open to try new things, like getting his haircut in a black-owned barbershop. I wish more people could be like Dr. Wattles!

Is our country improving? I do not believe so. There are always going to be issues with race in this country. You cannot make somebody changes their views on an issue but you can influence them.

How can we improve race in our country? EDUCATE OURSELVES FOSTER NEW RELATIONSHIPS REACH OUT TO THE RIGHT PEOPLE WORK TO DIVERSIFY LOCAL INSTITIONS STEP OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE KNOW YOURSELF!

Is starts with you! WE SHOULD ALL EMBRACE ONE ANOTHER AND IT STARTS WITH YOU!
