The numbers are all hyperlinked to the questions. The hyperlinks only work in the Slide Show view. Type Shift and F5 simultaneously to test your links.

Circulatory System: 1 point What is the function of the circulatory system? The circulatory system delivers oxygen and nutrients to the cells of the body. It brings wastes to the excretory organs. On each question slide, you can double-click the white text to add a question. Take special care to not press Delete before editing the text, as it will remove the animations and possibly the formatting. To insert pictures, shapes, or Clip Art, too, go to the Insert ribbon. Double-click on the black text to enter the answer. The house in the bottom left corner will allow the students to return to Slide 2, where the question board is found. Make sure to change your Topic section at the top of your slides, too.

Circulatory System: 2 points Fill in the blank: The _____ are the collecting chambers of the heart and the _____ are the pumping chambers of the heart. The atria are the collecting chambers of the heart and the ventricles are the pumping chambers of the heart.

Circulatory System: 3 points Explain how the circulatory system works with the digestive system. The circulatory system brings the nutrients absorbed in the intestines to the cells of the body.

Circulatory System: 4 points What are the three types of blood vessels and what do they do? The blood vessels are: Arteries – carry blood from heart to body Capillaries – small vessels that deliver oxygen and nutrients to cells; pick up wastes Veins – carry blood back to heart

Circulatory System: 5 points Explain why the ventricles of the heart are more muscular than the atria. The atria only have to pump blood through the heart, while the ventricles have to pump the blood as far away as the feet so they need to be stronger.

Body Organization: 1 point What is the basic unit of life? Cell

Body Organization: 2 points What is the correct order of the following: Organism Organ Organ system Organ Organ system Organism

Body Organization: 3 points What is homeostasis? Homeostasis is the body keeping a stable internal environment.

Body Organization: 4 points In what two ways are the levels of body organization different? The levels of body organization are different in size and complexity.

Body Organization: 5 points What will the body do to reach homeostasis if there is an allergen (allergy)? Give 2 examples. Eyes water Sneeze Coughing Itch Swelling

Respiratory System: 1 point Which of the following is NOT a job of the respiratory system? Absorbing nutrients Removing carbon dioxide waste Producing sound Removing extra moisture A. Absorbing nutrients

Respiratory System: 2 points _____ is the name of one of the tiny air sacs in the lungs where oxygen and carbon dioxide move in/out of the blood. Alveoli

Respiratory System: 3 points Infection of the larynx called laryngitis can have which of the following results? Unable to breathe Unable to cough Unable to remove carbon dioxide Unable to talk D. Unable to talk

Respiratory System: 4 points Explain how the breathing is controlled by the diaphragm. When the diaphragm contracts, the lungs expand and take in O2. When the diaphragm expands, the lungs shrink and push out CO2.

Respiratory System: 5 points Explain why exercise increases your breathing rate. The cells of the body need more oxygen and create more waste so your breathing speeds up to bring in more oxygen.

Digestive System: 1 point Which of the following is NOT a function of the digestive system? Break down food Remove extra water Absorb nutrients Remove solid waste B. Remove extra water

Digestive System: 2 points Which part of the digestive system absorbs nutrients using small structures called villi? Small intestine

Digestive System: 3 points Give examples of mechanical and chemical digestion. Mechanical: stomach muscles mash food Chemical: saliva softens food in mouth

Digestive System: 4 points Explain what would happen if peristalsis worked too quickly or too slowly. If food is moved too quickly the body would not have enough nutrients or water. If food is moved too slowly, the body would have a hard time getting rid of waste.

Digestive System: 5 points Predict what would happen if the epiglottis was not working properly. Food would enter the lungs and cause you to choke.

Excretory/Urinary System: 1 point Which of the following is NOT a job of the urinary system? Remove extra water from the blood Remove waste chemicals from the body Store liquid waste Remove solid waste D. Remove solid waste

Excretory/Urinary System: 2 points What is the job of the excretory system? The excretory system removes wastes products from the body.

Excretory/Urinary System: 3 points List three excretory organs. Skin, Lungs, Liver, Rectum, Kidneys

Excretory/Urinary System: 4 points Which of the following results would you expect if the kidneys stopped working? Body would swell Body would dry out Nutrients would not be absorbed Oxygen would not be absorbed A. Body would swell

Excretory/Urinary System: 5 points Compare and contrast the jobs of the kidneys and liver for the excretory system. Both the kidney and the liver clean the blood. The kidneys mostly remove water. The liver mostly removes chemicals from alcohol, medicines, and drugs.

Mystery: 1 point Explain peristalsis. Peristalsis is the slow muscle movements around digestive organs that help push food through the digestive system.

Compare and contrast egg and sperm. Mystery: 2 points Compare and contrast egg and sperm. Both the egg and sperm cells are needed for reproduction. The egg is made by the female and the sperm is made by the male.

Mystery: 3 points Emphysema is caused by a dangerous habit. What is the habit and which organ is affected? Emphysema is mostly caused by smoking tobacco and it affects the lungs.

Mystery: 4 points Place the following organs in the order that they will be used to digest a hotdog. Small intestine Esophagus Mouth Large intestine Stomach Rectum Mouth, Esophagus, Stomach, Small Intestine, Large Intestine, Rectum

Mystery: 5 points For a science project, a student wanted to measure the lung volume of kids of different ages. What was the independent variable in this project? Different ages of kids

Daily Double! These “Daily Double” slides are linked to the questions. As a team, decide how many of the points you already have you wish to wager. If you get the question correct, you will earn double the points you wagered. If you get the question incorrect, you will lose the points you wagered. Good luck!

For a science project, a student wanted to measure the lung volume of kids of different ages. What was the dependent variable in this project? Template designed by Theresa M. Dyson Computer Resource Specialist, Virginia Beach City Public Schools Adjunct Professor, Tidewater Community College Lung volume
