Information Management Enterprise 2.0 The Challenge In today's economic arena price is no longer an area where organizations can hope to differentiate themselves. Instead, innovation is the principle means through which organizations can remain competitive. They must foster an environment that encourages innovation and produces a constant stream of innovative services and solutions. Most organizations have failed to tap into one of their richest assets - the tacit knowledge of their workforce. There is much value to be gained from the unrecorded insight and experiences inside knowledge worker's heads. Furthermore, organizations tend to collaborate poorly as hierarchical structures prevent cross-division content and social discovery. Division heads act as barriers to the fluid exchange of ideas. The Solution The Enterprise 2.0 solution offering is a method-driven approach based on MIKE2.0 (Method for an Integrated Knowledge Environment), an open source standard to deliver enterprise information management projects. It is particularly focused on the impacts and the relation of information management and enterprise collaboration in regards to Information Development. Three guiding principles drive the approach and help formulate the initial architecture and governance model: Collaboration (customers, partners, internally) Agility (organisation, methodology, technology) Information-centricity (about the customer, partner, employee) These principles then guide the implementation of a solution based on enterprise content management, enterprise search, collaborative software and information governance models. The approach balances the risks with the benefits to harness the power of collaborative content development, informal networks and the wisdom of the crowd. Key Benefits Improved customer insight and customer service An agile organisation that doesn’t react but innovate Better governance of information assets Reduced technology cost due to effective development and deployment models Tapping the tacit knowledge and higher reuse of existing assets within your organisation Open Source and Open Standards We believe that open source software and standards are critical success factors when implementing collaborative technologies. Our approach has been developed and tested when delivering MIKE2.0 to the open source community and is now an integral part of the methodology itself. Our website is powered by omCollab, the open source collaboration platform that we have developed as part of the project. If you are interested in using omCollab to accelerate your Enterprise 2.0 solution, please contact us. Key Solution Components Organisation Networked Information Governance is a critical aspect of the framework. It brings together aspects of organisational design, information networks and information governance to create an Integrated Content Repository. Process MIKE2.0 (Method for an Integrated Knowledge Environment) is an open source delivery methodology for enterprise information management projects. It is comprised of an architecture framework and an implementation guide that augments infrastructure development and application development with Information Development, a key differentiator when designing and deploying information-centric solutions. MIKE2.0 includes collaborative development design patterns to accelerate implementation, following a five phase approach: Business Assessment and Strategy Blueprint Technology Assessment and Selection Blueprint Information Management Roadmap and Foundation Activities Design Increment Develop, Test and Deploy Increment Technology Wikis to collaboratively create and share content. Blogs to publish individual or group-based information. Social Bookmarking for storing, sharing and discovering web bookmarks. Enterprise Search Integration to discover and serve content in federated repositories. Social Networking to create communities and foster collaboration. Mashups to create integrated views of internal and external assets.
