Packaging Design Lesson Objectives: 1) To understand why we use packaging. 2) To design our own electronic organ package. Success Criteria Must: Have experimented on paper with different colours and patterns for the packaging. Should: Have begun to mark out the design onto your cardboard net. Could: Have completed your design neatly and built the box using scissors and glue. ORIGINAL CREATOR OF THIS PRESENTATION: HELEN HUDSPITH

You have 5 minutes to discuss this with the people on your table. Why do we need PACKAGING? You have 5 minutes to discuss this with the people on your table. starter Write down your ideas…

GOOD PACKAGING… PACKAGING? So, why do we need Tells us what we’re buying. Attracts us to the product. Protects the product from damage. Shows legal information. Might have instructions on how to use the product.

Has a window to allow us to see inside the box. SOME PACKAGING… Has a window to allow us to see inside the box.

Has “try me” spaces for us to test out the item. SOME PACKAGING… Has “try me” spaces for us to test out the item.

SOME PACKAGING… Can be easily recycled.

To design the graphics for a box for our electronic organ. OUR TASK FOR TODAY… To design the graphics for a box for our electronic organ.

You will need to think about… ISSUES TO CONSIDER… You should sketch some ideas out on blank paper before you commit to drawing on your actual box. You will need to think about… Which colours will encourage people to notice my product? Can I think of a fun product name and logo have on the box? Can I make my box look neat and professional? Where will my barcode go? Which way up does my design need to be? (IMPORTANT: all of the faces do not go in the same direction!). You have 15 minutes to sketch down as many ideas as you can for patterns and names for your electronic organ.

HOW IS THE NET USED?

Designing your package: COLOURFUL GOOD NAME NEAT (BARCODE)
