Reading ELG - Home learning poster This poster can be used to support the development of Reading at home, a great resource for parents. www.earlybirdyeducation.com

Encourage reading in everyday life e. g Encourage reading in everyday life e.g. menus at restaurants, train platforms, bus stops, shopping, signs. Allow your child t become independent by getting them to take charge of their journey? Experience? By reading such information, timetables and captions. Allow your child to take charge of their own reading. Go to the library share and take out favourite books. Create a sticker chart for the children to rate their books. Encourage reading by exploring different genres such as comics, fiction, information texts and poetry. Play eye spy and encourage children to orally segment words. Start off using initial sounds, then move on to diagraphs e.g. I spy with my little eye something with the sound ai? =Rain. Reading Children read and understand simple sentences.
