Specifically, I would like to review the following: The types of service students will utilize for travel to and from School of the Arts. The RTS Smart Card ID Pass types and rules. Temporary Passes. Utilization of the Two Plus Two Activity Pass. How to properly board with the RTS Smart Card ID Pass. Expectations when transferring at the RTS Transit Center. and lastly Where you can obtain assistance with trip planning.

Types of Service

Express Transfer Service The majority of students eligible for transportation services through RTS will utilize Express Transfer Service or ETS. Express Transfer Service is quite convenient, as the routes travel from various neighborhoods throughout the City to the School of the Arts without stopping in the downtown area. For the 2018-2019 School Year, there are a total of 16 ETS routes.

Non-Express Service to the School of the Arts Route 48/ University Those students that require travel privileges at various times throughout the school day, will utilize “Non-Express Transfer Service”. They will travel downtown via the appropriate route from their neighborhood to the RTS Transit Center. Upon arriving at the Transit Center, students will transfer to the 48/ University to reach the School of the Arts, as depicted in the slide. RTS Transit Center School of the Arts

Types of Passes Students entitled to transportation services will receive one of three Smartcard ID Passes.

No Downtown Pass (white) If you receive a No Downtown Pass, you are required to use Express Transfer Service. As you see in the picture, it is white in color and contains the students picture, name, school name and school year. This pass is only valid for travel on Express Transfer Routes.

1 Hour Connection Pass (gray) Those students with travel exceptions will receive either a 1 Hour Connection Pass or a Flex Pass. The 1 Hour Connection Pass is gray in color and is valid from 5:30am to 9:30am at any bus stop, except the Transit Center. The pass is valid from 10:30am to 5:00pm at the bus stop closest to the school printed on the pass. In order to transfer at the Transit Center, a Connection Pass must be requested immediately upon boarding from the operator.

Flex Pass (green) The Flex Pass is valid from 5:30am to 7:00pm at any bus stop, except the Transit Center. In order to transfer at the Transit Center, a Connection Pass must be requested immediately upon boarding from the Operator.

Temporary Passes No Downtown Pass (white) 1 Hour Connection Pass (grey) For travel to and from school on September 5th, 6th and 7th, students will utilize a temporary paper pass, which will be mailed to their residences. They will receive either a No Downtown or 1 Hour Connection Pass. During the first week of school, students will receive their permanent pass.

Two Plus Two Activity Pass Those students participating in after-school activities will be issued a Two Plus Two Activity Pass to travel home. The Pass is valid for two rides within a two hour period. The Two Plus Two Activity Pass is only valid when presented in conjunction with a Smart Card ID Pass. It is valid weekdays, when school is in session, from 3:30pm to 9:00pm. It is also valid on weekends, holidays and during school breaks.

Boarding Process with Pass

Boarding Process Show your Pass to the Operator The Operator will verify: That the picture on the pass is indeed you That the type of pass is valid on that route, at that given location and time Note: If you attempt to use a pass that is not yours, the Operator is required to take it from you for return to the District Trans. Dept. Upon boarding the RTS bus, you are required to show your pass to the Operator. The Operator will verify as to whether the picture on the pass is you, as well as if the type of pass is valid on that route, at that given time and location. If you attempt to use a pass with someone else’s picture on it, the Operator is required to take it from you for return to the Rochester City School District Transportation Department.

Boarding Process Tap your card on the farebox A “beep” indicates that your pass is valid “Card not valid” is heard if pass is invalid Note: If you attempt to use a pass that is not valid, the Operator is required to take it from you for return to the District Trans. Dept. Next, tap your Pass on the farebox where you see the bulls eye. If your pass is valid, you will hear a beep. If your pass is not valid, you will hear the recorded message, “card not valid”. If your pass registers as “not valid”, the Operator is required to take it from you for return to the District.

RTS Transit Center

RTS Transit Center The RTS Transit Center provides a comfortable environment for customers to transfer buses downtown. Students are expected to make their transfer at the Transit Center in a timely fashion. As previously mentioned, students transferring buses downtown will do so at the Transit Center. In order to board at the Transit Center, students must have either a Connection Pass or Two Plus Two Activity Pass, in conjunction with their RTS Smartcard ID. All students are expected to make their transfer at the Transit Center in a timely fashion.
