Margaret Morrison Contemporary Hyper-realism Mrs. Fox

Realism The realistic and natural representation of people, places, and/or things in a work of art; sometimes considered synonymous with naturalism.

Hyper-realism Photorealism Realism Semi-Abstraction Abstraction

Hyper-realism Style of painting and drawing that is so precise it is an enhanced version of life Difficult to see the artist’s “hand”

Life Change Morrison was diagnosed and treated for breast cancer in 2008 A notable shift in her subject matter and palette (color choices) was evident as a result of this life changing experience. Her work became a visual celebration of life based on her therapy – mainly sweet treats and comfort food

**All objects can be seen as a collection of shapes and values

Aerial/Atmospheric Perspective Scale: objects appear smaller as they get farther away Placement: objects placed lower in the picture plane appear closer Overlapping: objects in front are closer than objects behind Detail: objects closer to the viewer have more detail Color Saturation: close = color is brighter/more intense far away = color is dull/less intense
