Healthy eating for people and benefits the environment By Alejandra Anchaluisa

The Brooklyn Grange Farm Located on the roof of an old industrial building in New York (Brooklyn Grange, 63 Flushing Ave Box 1106, Brooklyn Ny) 2009 It has about 2,000 square meters Organically cultivatation for tomatoes, basil, squash (No chemical fertilizers or pesticides are used.) Vegetables are sold to restaurants, supermarkets, catering companies and local individual consumers. The main idea is to make healthy food more accesible for people

It is performed by volunteer Schools, Neighbors Community Organizations

The created vegetation cover allows for a better absorption of rainfall, which is usually critical point in the cities, since everywhere cement causes frequent flooding during the winter season waters.

It helps with environmental cooling (without involving extra cost of electricity) from the city, mitigating heat that usually occur in areas with a lot of energy emanation.

During New York’s cold season, cultivation is not possible on the roof; outdoor. Therefore greenhouses were implemented to raise small outbreaks of protected seeds and then implanted into the ground again prepared for the arrival of spring.
