2017 Astrobiology Science Conference (AbSciCon): Mentoring Program On April 25, 2017, the 3rd AbSciCon “Meeting Mentor Program” paired astrobiologists with students underrepresented in STEM fields Approximately 49 mentors and 49 students participated from Mills College in Oakland, CA, and the Maricopa County Community Colleges in the greater Phoenix, AZ area Along with their mentors, students attended talks, poster sessions, networking sessions and conversed with other scientists The Meeting Mentor Program provides a gateway for students interested in STEM to get a brief but immersive exposure to cutting-edge science in the science conference setting where new discoveries are discussed “I think I’m more inspired by my mentee than the other way around!” - 2017 Meeting Mentor Daniella Scalice • Education and Communications Lead • NASA Astrobiology Program • daniella.m.scalice@nasa.gov
