Fresh kills park from landfill to park

FRESH KILLS HAS BEEN AROUND FOR 53 YEARS NOW INTRO Welcome to our slide show about fresh kills landfill which is now a redeveloped park which produces reusable solar energy and supports the environment and wildlife that is beginning to live there again. Fresh Kills Landfill is located in USA in the state of New York on Staten Island. FRESH KILLS HAS BEEN AROUND FOR 53 YEARS NOW

DID YOU KNOW? Fresh Kills Landfill was opened in 1948 and was closed in 2001. It was only supposed to be a temporary fix for waste disposal but stayed opened for five years. Did you know 16,000 tonnes of rubbish was dumped there every day?

A LIFE STORY OF FRESH KILLS PARK It opened in 1948.It was located at Satan island and was temporary but the government forgot to stop it so it lived for 53 years. None of the Staten Islanders’ liked it especially the local community who lived nearby. The complained it was smell, pest-ridden and caused diseases.

NEGATIVE SIDE EFFECTS Landfill created bad side effects for the people that lived near to it. These were: pests, pollution, contamination, illnesses/diseases and destruction of environment.
