Work and Machines What is a machine??.
* The distance over which the effort force acts in a simple machine. * The force exerted by a person or motor when using a machine to lift a load.
Machines, Mechanical Advantage and Efficiency. What is a Machine?  A machine makes work easier and more effective.  A machine never changes the amount.
Work, Power and Energy Chp 10 and 11. Some Terms  Work  Exerting a force over a distance  Energy  The ability to do work (or change the world around.
Work  The product of the force and distance when a force is used to move an object.
Section 2 Work and Machines. Machines Do Work A machine is a device that changes a force. Machines make work easier to do. They change the size of a force.
REVIEW Work Power and Machines. What Is Work? Key Concepts  Work is done on an object when the object moves in the same direction in which the force.
Mechanical Advantage The measurement of how useful a machine is to the job.
MECHANICAL ADVANTAGE. THE RATIO OF MAGNITUDE OF THE EXERTED FORCE ON AN OBJECT BY A SIMPLE MACHINE TO THE ACTUAL FORCE APPLIED ON THE MACHINE.

Work and Machines. What is a machine? A device that allows you to do work in a way that is easier and more effective.
Section 5-2.  The work done by a machine is work output. Work output = resistance force x resistance distance.  The work done on a machine is work input.
Simple Machines Inclined Planes Pulleys
Machines. Simple Machines  Work out is less than or equal to Work in.  Force out can be greater than Force in.
Mechanical advantage The number of times a force exerted on a machine is multiplied by the machine Mechanical advantage (MA). = resistance force effort.

Advantages to Simple Machines You will need 5 Vocabulary Cards Vocabulary 6.2

Input Force (Effort) The force exerted on a machine. The input force moves the machine a certain distance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y maNWwfPIS4

Output Force The force a machine exerts on an object. The output force should be greater than the input force.

Efficiency This is the comparison of the output work to the input work. A Machine is efficient if the output is greater than the input. However, no machine gives 100% efficiency.

Compound Machine A device that combines two or more simple machines.
