Mockingjay Suzanne Collins My book is Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

Climax Rising Actions Falling Actions Exposition Denouement This is Freytag’s pyramid It shows the basic outline for every story In this presentation, I will show you how this pyramid relates to the book Mockingjay I will not be explaining The falling actions or the denouement in fear of revealing the ending Let’s start with the Exposition The exposition contains characters and setting Exposition Denouement

Main Characters Katniss Everdeen Gale Hawthorne Katniss Everdeen Likes to hunt in woods 17 years old Brave, extremely short tempered, and stubborn. Extremely accurate archer In the story, rebels are fighting to take over the ruling dictators Spokesperson for rebels – Mockingjay – Mocking Bird and Jabber Jay (explain) – one condition was being able to kill Snow in the end Gale Hawthorne 19 years old Caring, loyal, strong, and opinionated Katniss’s best friend

Setting Future North America – called Panem It is just a book so the locations are not exact As you can see – mostly water Split up Into 13 districts and the Capitol Districts are in ruins – Capitol lives luxuriously Takes place mostly in District 13 where Katniss and Gale now live

Climax Rising Actions Falling Actions Exposition Denouement Next is the Rising actions These are important events that lead up to the climax Exposition Denouement

Rising Action #1 Katniss travels to District 8 The main problem in the story is fighting the overruling Capitol The rebels make videos to share their message across the districts Katniss travels to district 8 Visits hospital Shoots video footage to broadcast across Panem A V formation of Capitol bombers approaches Katniss takes battle position w/ Gale Successfully defeat bombers w/ explosive tipped arrows Had already bombed the hospital Discovered just how ruthless and despicable the Capitol is

Rising Action #2 Katniss travels to District 2 Destroy a Capitol Soldier training center in a mountain train peace keepers - soldiers Create an avalanche trapping most workers inside Some people escaped from the mountain Someone shot Katniss Katniss is sent to the Hospital in 13 where she is to stay out of action for a while

Rising Action #3 Katniss travels to the Capitol Once she is healed, Katniss travels to the Capitol She and her team Journey through the booby-trapped outskirts Are chased through an underground sewage system by ravenous mutations Reach the heart of the city Rest of team splits up Gale captured by peacekeepers Later, bombs go off Katniss wounded – her sister – Prim – dies Blacked out while the rebels overtake the Capitol

Climax Rising Actions Falling Actions Exposition Denouement Finally, I will share the climax The climax is the most suspenseful part in the story in which the main character usually makes a discovery. Exposition Denouement

Climax Katniss is about to kill President Snow Snow was captured Tied to a post In front of an audience of many people Katniss Has one symbolic arrow – impossible to miss But then she makes a discovery about who really deserves to be killed The arrow flies along its course – but its target is not President Snow

Theme You have to fight for what is right and justice, no matter what happens. You have to fight for what you believe in no matter what happens or who dies This theme can apply to anyone anywhere, you just need to stand up for yourself I chose the picture of the statue of liberty because it stands for hope, freedom, and justice, just as the Mockingjay means hope for the rebels.

Thanks For Watching Check out the other two books! First book – the hunger games Second book – catching fire
