Security – What You Can Do Make sure all computers are running the latest windows updates; this includes personal and site computers During the season, the operating systems of all computers containing taxpayer data must be password-protected. Passwords must not be shared with anyone who is not an AARP Foundation Tax-Aide volunteer. Data Security Password Password guidelines: Minimum length – eight (8) characters for Windows, and TaxSlayer™ accounts. At least one letter and one number in the password. TaxSlayer requires passwords to be changed every 90 days AARP requires that AARP computer login passwords be changed annually. Data Security Documents It is our policy that Sites or EROs do not keep any forms or documents with taxpayer identity and/or SSN number, unless mandated by the IRS or a state/local agency. This includes W-2s, 1099s, and Form 8879. Form 8453, if used for mailing supporting documents to the IRS, can be retained while awaiting acknowledgement.
