Simple Future Tense
Simple Future tense has 2 different forms in English: “will” and “be going to”
Form: Will Subject Will Verb I will open the door. You finish I will open the door. You finish before me. He not be at school tomorrow. She help you. It there tomorrow. They do their homework. We leave yet. Note: When using the word not, always put it between the will and the verb. The will always comes first when asking a question. Will you not arrive on time? they want dinner?
Form: Be going to Subject am/is/are Going to Verb I am not going to I am not going to open the door. You are meet Jane tonight. He is be at school tomorrow. She clean the floor. It there tomorrow. They make dinner. We some sandwiches. When asking a question Are You going to meet Jane tonight? Is he not do his homework?
When to use the “will” form Use “will” to express a voluntary action. I will give you the phone number. Will you help me with my homework? The phone rings. “I will get it.” Use “will” when there is no plan. We will see what happens. I think I will go to gym tomorrow. Use “will” when making promises. I will call you when I arrive. I promise I will not tell anyone about the secret. Do not worry. I will be careful.
When to use the “be going to” form Use “be going to” to express a plan. I am going to spend my vacation in Las Vegas. She is going to sleep at 9 p.m. Jenna is going to be a singer when she grows up. He is going to make the cake.
“will” or “be going to” We can use either of those forms when making a prediction. This year will be an interesting year. This year is going to be an interesting year. Barack Obama will be the next president. Barack Obama is going to be the next president.
