PLANT Adaptations. ADAPTATIONS: TO SUNLIGHT 1. Plants need light for photosynthesis 2. Epiphytes-plants that grow on other plants to get sunlight 3. Vines-plants.
Plant Adaptations. Types of Adaptations Structural adaptations are the way something is built or made. Behavioral adaptations are the way something acts.
Goal for the Day 1.Review the major parts of plants and their functions. 2.Discuss factors involved in the early growth of a plant.
Topic: Plants 3.L.1.1. Students are able to identify the basic structures, functions, and needs of plants in relation to their environment. Examples: leaves,

Review day 12/15

Why do cactus have spines not leaves? If they have leaves, they will transpire more and loose water

What is happening in the body at cellular level? Life processes are taking place like : digestion, reproduction – all body systems at work! They release energy from the food that they have eaten

How do plants reproduce without a flower? Spores Grafting budding

Waiting for the right conditions to grow dormancy Waiting for the right conditions to grow

What are the bubbles in a vase after plant immersion? Oxygen Coming out of lenticels (stem)

Altering environment to allow flowers to bloom all year long Increasing temperature Light exposure Put them in greenhouses

How can plant survive salty environment? Roots should be able to store salt and excrete them through their leaves They are called halophytes

Bad smell benefits - attract pollinators such as flies Intimidate would be predators / eaters

Benefits of eating fruit More energy in plants

Adaptation of plants in hotter environment Small leaves or no leaves but thorns and spines Thick cuticle on leaves to prevent excessive evaporation Sunken stomata Extensive root system

Why do some plants stick? To spread their seeds for pollination
