Miscellaneous Loose Ends BTA

Resume Reminders If at all possible, keep your resume to one page. Use few abbreviations or no abbreviations are better Don’t just say “won an award”-tell which award, and what you won it for. Proofread carefully. Make sure that your grammar, spelling, and punctuation are completely accurate. Ask someone else to proofread your resume. Quality appearance. Quality paper in white, gray, ivory Make extra resume copies. Update your resume periodically.

Income Income Gross income vs. Net Income Gross income is the amount of money you actually make Net income is the amount of money you actually bring home (after taxes, insurance, social security, retirement, etc.)

W-4 W-4 W-4 is the form you fill out when you get a job This tells your employer how much money to take out in taxes The more exemptions you claim, the less money is taken out for taxes BEWARE: Using too high a number will result in you having to pay money (taxes) to the government each April. Best to claim 0 when you are a teenager

OSHA OSHA OSHA stands for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration It is the government entity in charge of safe workplaces Certain rules and regulations to be followed by all employers

Reminder: Reminder Make sure you set tabs and use the tab key to line things up in any Office document Using spaces will eventually result in something that looks aligned on your monitor but when it prints will not be exactly lined up.
