Development through play

The job of a baby is to play Babies learn about the world around them through play Play strengthens all areas of development: social emotional physical intellectual The job of a baby is to play

Play games with toys or objects the baby can grasp 0-6 months Play games with toys or objects the baby can grasp

Make noise with a rattle or other toy

Infants love toys that are colorful, move around, and make noise.

Choose toys that are safe and age appropriate for the baby

choose toys for climbing and physical movement including functional play(back and forth movement). 9 months to 2 years

Choose toys for dramatic play and creative play 2-3 years toys

4- 6 years old Choose toys that encourage fine motor skills and cooperative play 4- 6 years old

Babies can swallow or choke on small parts or stick them in their nose or ears. If they can stick it in a toilet paper tube it is too small

Toys should be sturdy plastic is preferred

Toys should be kept clean but don’t use harmful chemicals when they chew them

Babies explore with all their senses—touch, vision, hearing, smell and taste

They learn by cause and effect
