COMMUNITY LIFE AND MISSION How can we understand that Community is Mission? How can we avoid to oppose Community life and Mission?
COMMUNITY CAN HELP ME TO BE A BETTER MISSIONARY OUTSIDE… A place of rest and food for my body, my mind, my heart, my soul… A place to share my experiences and receive encouragements and support. A place of exercise for the mission, increasing my virtues… A place of formation by others to our way of proceeding. A place of common discernment to help my choices.
COMMUNITY CAN BE MISSIONARY TOWARD ME… A place to nourish my human, Christian and religious life as a Jesuit A place of formation to Jesuit life, by daily contact with others A place of edification by their examples A place of conversion by the brotherly corrections
COMMUNITY, EARTH OF MISSION: HELPING THE SOULS… OF MY FIRST NEIGHBOURS! Serving and loving them in true and deeds Contributing to their human and spiritual growth by my service, prayer and example… Being a man of mercy for their poverties and miseries (visiting ill people, being patient and a man of reconciliation among them…)
HELPING MISSIONARIES… AND SO, SHARING A PART OF THEIR MISSIONS Helping Jesuits, I help missionaries, and support their missions… directly or indirectly by service, prayer, common discernment, mutual edification, giving them more availability for their missions by my work at home…
COMMUNITY IS IN ITSELF A MEAN FOR MISSION… Community life is (or should be) a powerful testimony of the Spirit of the Gospel (charity, freedom, poverty, obedience, chastity, humility, joy, peace and so…) Hospitality and visibility of our common life help others to understand our proper charisma. This hospitality and testimony can help our collaborators, and also help for vocations, so it helps Mission. Each community, like the whole Church in general, is an eschatological sign of the Kingdom, already here and still to come.
COMMUNITY IS IN ITSELF A GOAL FOR MISSION… The goal of Mission is to build a Communion: Helping the souls for them to grow up in knowledge of God and ability to love and serve Him and in ability to love others and live freely in this Creation, praising, serving and loving the Lord. So the goal of Mission is to build a certain Community rooted in Charity. As Eucharist is source and summit of Christian life, so community can be said source and summit of Mission: Community life is Mission for Mission is Communion.
